On Self Awareness

Who are you really? It's a question we struggle to answer. And I'd go as far as to say that most of us can't answer this question correctly. Most of what we think we know about ourselves is actually just shit people have told us. Or worse, it's our ego creating false ideas about who we are. Either way , most of us are walking around thinking we know it all. Yet most of us are left unfulfilled. And I think the reason is clear. Much like anything, we don't know shit, especially about ourselves. I don't think I know everything about myself. I learn new things about who I am everyday. But I have learned that the best way to figure out who you are is by paying attention to what makes you happy. How many things do you do in a day that you really have no desire to do? My bet is that it is more than things you do want to do. That's a problem. Self awareness requires you to realize that what you should focus on is what makes you happy. Boomers will say that life is about getting up, going to work, making money, buying a house, having a family, and that's it. Not once have I heard my elder relatives talk about happiness. My dad has always come home from work miserable. I hear it all the time. "Work isn't supposed to be enjoyable.'' Why not? So you are telling me that I'm supposed to spend a huge time of my life being unhappy so I can buy things to impress people. Fuck that! Some of you should go to school, some of you shouldn't. Some love working 12 hours a day. Some hate it. As long as you are a kind, empathetic, and gratitude driven person, you are doing well. But take a moment , please. Ask yourself if what you are doing is making you happy. Ask yourself if you can be this person everyday for the rest of your life. If the answer is no, then a change is needed. Because one thing is for sure, we all deserve to be happy. Here's to knowing that your happiness matters Stay Healthy, Stay Fit, Stay Lit #happiness #millennials #selfawareness
